To make the most of your Shine training, check out these 5 keys to maximizing your workouts. We have a saying in Shine, "My Competition is Me."
If you're going to get the most out of your training plan, follow these 5 steps to maximizing your workouts. BE PREPARED Arrive at training at least 10 minutes early. Be dressed for workout. Make sure you have at least one basketball. Bring your own water (maybe two!). And bring your Training Notebook to track your progress. GET YOUR MIND RIGHT A big part of the effectiveness of your training will be the mental focus you bring into the gym, and the mindset you "turn on" prior to the first rep. This is training - not social hour. You're here for a reason. You're here to be better than yesterday's version of yourself. You've got to concentrate. Treat the workout like you're about to play a Championship game - create a pre-workout routine. After initially greeting your teammates, give yourself some separation from the chatter, throw on your headphones, get your gear on, stretch and hydrate. FIRST IN, LAST OUT Hustle everywhere. All the time. Every time. When the whistle blows, sprint to the coach. When the huddle breaks for the next drill, race to be first in line. Missed a shot? Sprint for your rebound. Loose ball? Get horizontal and dive after it. Excellence is a decision which is always in conflict with our selfish, lazy nature. Train like the player you want to be, not the player you feel like. ENERGIZE YOUR ENVIRONMENT Be a thermostat, not a thermometer for the gym! Influence your environment and elevate everyone around you. Clap. Cheer. Encourage. Praise. Celebrate. You should never be still or quiet. Ever. Compete with the person next to you to be the most animated and energized teammate in the gym. How you feel has NOTHING to do with this one. Being Excellent is a decision, remember, and has nothing to do with how you feel? The only reason you're not over-the-top loud is because you literally can't breathe because you've been First In, Last Out everywhere. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS Bring a notebook and track your progress each workout. How did you feel? What went well? What areas were a struggle? Write down a particular drill or series that you want to add to your personal workouts outside of Shine. Journaling your experience will help keep you focused on your goals and progress and get you the maximum benefit from your training process. |
