Thanks for all you've done for us coach! I can honestly say that it was those first two summers I spent training under you that got me on varsity freshmen year and helped me become the player I am today. It's been one heck of a ride! Thank you so much!

COMPETITIVE TEAMS
We are planning our upcoming Winter 2024 and Spring 2025 Elite Team program now. To join our waitlist to be notified of future team updates, click below.
Shine Elite , our competitive division, evaluates players for local, regional and nationally competitive teams. We are well-established with the major national "exposure" events, as well as many "grassroots" and highly competitive regional programs and showcases. Additionally, we have established strong connections with scouting and player showcase services like PrepHoops to assist our deserving players with marketing themselves to collegiate and other next level programs. Our goal for each team is to have a "varsity or pre-collegiate" team experience in terms of practices, preparation, and competition at their respective levels. Level of play is selected to be challenging but not overwhelming for each team, and we expect to gradually increase the level of competition as each team develops over the season. Our evaluations are challenging, and we rate not only a player's athletic ability, but also their teammate qualities, attitude, mental toughness, and communication habits from the moment they enter our gym. We explain all standards prior to beginning the evaluations and do not compromise on any of them throughout the program. Team rosters are limited to 9 players to maximize playing time and accountability. We only form teams if we have identified enough athletes who meet our selection criteria. Those that are not selected are encouraged to remain in the Shine Academy as training athletes. This offers two advantages: 1. Non-selected athletes are offered specific feedback regarding their deficiencies and are given an opportunity to receive direct training and coaching to continue to grow and become a more viable prospect for a future team. We don't reject athletes - we tell them "not yet" and then partner with them to develop! 2. Non-selected athletes are able to workout with and compete against Elite players - gaining valuable challenge in each workout, as well as creating a healthy competitive pressure for the Elite team members. (We have had many non-selected athletes who have committed to working and development in between tryourts and earn selection over returning Elite players!) Potential Team Levels (boys and girls): 6th, 7th, 8th, HS Black (JV - regional travel) and HS Gold (Varsity-national travel) |
REVEWS OF PRIOR TRYOUTS AND TEAMS
Hi Coach Rob,
Here's what we liked about tryouts:
1. Unique drills; things I hadn't seen before
2. Clear sense of TEAM from your players; cheering one another on, finishing drills with one another, etc.
3. Clear sense not only of the girls as players but the girls as athletes and people, and the kind of mental/emotional/personal qualities they'd have to demonstrate
Those things caught my eye more than the other clubs Maliah had tried out for. Thanks!

Thank you for everything coach rob. These past 5 years with Shine have been amazing and unforgettable. I’ve grown so much not only as a player but also as a person. You have always been a huge supporter of everything that I’ve done and pushed me to the next level. Thank you and I can’t wait to move on to the next level because of what Shine has taught me!

Your tryouts were awesome, well organized and it seems we all have the same goal in mind to train these girls to play at a higher level and be successful. Angelina is looking forward to becoming a well rounded player in all aspects of the game and believes that with the shine program she has a very good chance of achieving her goal of playing varsity basketball for her high school.

I love the idea of working on individual skills and all kids on a team bringing that development to their team, so team practice is more productive (again coming from a recreational basketball background this is something that really frustrated my child that not every teammate was committed to "getting better".)

Coach thank you so much for everything and for not only being my coach but my mentor. I am not where I am today if it weren’t for you pushing me and guiding me to not only be the best player I can be but person. Coach thank you personally for a great 2 club seasons! I’ll never forget sushi night.
