competitive open runs

Shine offers Saturday Open Runs for pick-up competitive play at our facility. The purpose of these sessions is to give players from the Northern Colorado area a chance to play competitive, organized games to further develop their skills, confidence and leadership on the court. Games are "open" in that they are "self-refereed" by participating teams during game play. A gym administrator/coach provides oversight and final authority over the gym at all times. 

Please read the following guidelines.

WHO CAN COME:

• Any middle school or high school player, boys and girls.
• Membership in Shine is NOT a requirement.

COST:

• Current Shine Members: Free
• Guests: $20 cash paid at the gym

DATES AND TIMES:

• Saturdays 10:30am - 12:30pm

LOCATION:

• Calvary Community Baptist Church - Shine's Gym
• 11980 Irma Drive, Northglenn, CO 80233

REGISTRATION

• No pre-registration is required. Players may just arrive at the designated time to participate.

GAME RULES

• Games will be up to 15-minute running clock, full court 5v5. Smaller-sided games (ie. less than 5v5) will be determined by the Gym Monitor based on attendance.
• There will be a 5 minute intermission between games.
• Teams will be formed based on Open Gym standards - ie. players get into games being "next up". 
• Teams may call their own 30-second timeouts during game play. The clock continues to run during the timeout.
• Points scored are 2pts and 3pts based court location from which the ball is scored
• The Gym Monitor will manage the game clock, scoreboard, and will serve as the final authority in the event of any unresolved issues between teams or players. 
• Score will be kept on the overhead scoreboard to determine game winners.
• Only the players involved in the fouling play may call a "foul" - either defensive or offensive. When such a foul is called, that announcement must be honored by all players on the floor without argument.
• Defensive fouls will result in the offense starting a new possession at the top of the key via a "check ball". No free throws will be shot during games.
• Offensive fouls will result in change of possession and a baseline inbound action.
• ​The gym will provide colored pennies to distinguish teams during games. These pennies must be worn by all players. No "skins"/shirtless game play is allowed.

GUIDELINES

• Open Runs are open to all Middle School and High School athletes.
• All sessions are CO-ED.
• All athletes must sign in and accept the Shine Waiver upon entry to the gym prior to participating.
• The gym is under the supervision of, and games will be organized by, the Gym Monitor/Coach overseeing the session.
• The Gym Monitor/Coach is the ultimate authority during the session and all players and spectators must comply with their direction at all times. Failure to do so will result in removal from the gym and a ban from future Open Runs.
• No hanging on any rims of any height in the gym at any time.
• No drugs, alcohol or firearms are permitted in the facility at any time. Violation of this standard will result in immediate removal from the gym and a permanent ban on future participation.
• Players deemed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be removed from the gym and prohibited from future participation.
• Any fighting or excessive physical contact, as determined by the Gym Monitor/Coach, will result in removal from the gym. A determination will be made at the same time by the Gym Monitor/Coach as to whether the individual(s) will be allowed to return to future sessions.
• Any intentional property damage or vandalism to the Shine facility will result in the immediate termination of the session for the day. All players will be required to leave.
• Any other issues not mentioned herein that come up will be resolved by the Gym Monitor/Coach.​
